“Inherent Worth…”

 In addition to being my favorite toothpaste, Tom’s of Maine may be one of my favorite business models.  It’s pretty impressive that a natural personal care company has a set of Core Beliefs that starts off with,

“We believe that both human beings and nature have inherent worth and deserve our respect”

They have taken the time to fully analyze not only their values but how that translates into their purpose in the world, their reason for being, their model of stewardship and how to practically live out their values.  The result is an amazing company with equally amazing products that impact our world in such a positive way.  Tom’s of Maine was a front-runner company, founded in the 70’s when this type of corporate sustainability and value system was unusual.  I think we owe a lot to their leadership and can continue to learn from their informed and inspired way of doing business as good stewards and good neighbors.  Oh yeah, by the way, my favorite toothpaste is their Anti-Plaque Toothpaste with Propolis and Myrrh, in Cinnamint.
